Question for the folks: What do you use to make posters? I've heard Powerpoint, biorender, scribus. Anything else? Why do you use what you use?

@yokofakun interesting, I only ever considered Inkscape for detailed vector work and thought it much too finicky for full documents.

@skranz0 google slides. fundamentally similar to the powerpoint method but it's free, easy, and works well enough :)

It always feels like a secret hack that you can resize a powerpoint/google slide to be several feet in dimensions for poster making

@skranz0 I'm too old to be doing posters, but have been using Scribus for ages - teaching material, picture books, an exhibition with 200 photos... Needs more contributions to enrich the Python macro ecosystem, renovation of LaTeX render frame (at least the help) & a few other things.

I recommend academics make the effort to get familiar with LaTeX & its accessories Tikz etc. The free version of the Overleaf subscription will get you started & you can do a lot with that.

Finally, the paid-for version of Canva (free for non profit associations) might upset DTP geeks, but it's surprisingly good; you can even publish your efforts directly as a website.

@andreask @typst Looks interesting, will try next time I have to type something! I love the flexibility offers, but it can be cumbersome to use. On first glance this looks like a nice middle way between LaTeX and

@skranz0 @typst It isn't fully there yet in every regard, but Typst aims to be a full competitor of LaTeX rather than some middle ground. It just has a more convenient markup syntax that might remind you of Markdown.
